Environment Artist

Festanstellung, Vollzeit · München

Why us?

welevel is an innovative game studio based in Munich, backed by top-tier investors. We are developing Solid River, the first AAA survival game with deep city-building mechanics in the late game, set in a medieval, procedurally generated world with AI-driven NPCs.

Here’s what makes us stand out:

  • Inspiring Work Environment: A central Munich location with a diverse, motivated, and international team that fosters creativity and collaboration.
  • Competitive Compensation: We believe in rewarding talent with attractive and fair packages.
  • Innovative Technology: Work with the latest tools and technologies to push boundaries and make the impossible possible.
Your Role

We’re looking for an Environment Artist to craft the natural landscapes and biomes that form the heart of Solid River. You will sculpt immersive worlds, create high-quality natural assets, and ensure visual consistency across diverse environments — balancing artistry with technical excellence.

As an Environment Artist, you’ll work closely with our development team. Including designers, technical artists, and other creatives to bring the game’s environments to life with breathtaking detail and strong gameplay readability.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement procedural generation pipelines for landscapes, biomes, settlements, and structures.
  • Create modular natural assets (rocks, trees, cliffs, ground cover).
  • Ensure visual consistency between biomes.
  • Optimize performance and memory usage for large-scale procedural worlds.
  • Ensure seamless integration between handcrafted and procedurally generated content.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to define technical requirements and develop scalable solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members in procedural content creation.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Environmental Artist in game development, with a focus on procedural content generation.
  • Deep expertise in Unreal Engine and procedural workflows.
  • Strong understanding of world-building techniques, landscape generation, and instancing methods.
  • Experience developing tools and pipelines for terrain, foliage, settlements, and asset scattering.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills in C++, or HLSL.
  • Familiarity with shader development and performance optimization for large environments.
  • Strong artistic sense and ability to balance procedural generation with creative direction.
  • Ability to debug and optimize complex pipelines.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.
  • Onsite position.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AI-driven procedural content generation.
  • Knowledge of Substance Designer, SpeedTree, or other procedural tools.
  • Understanding of multiplayer and networking considerations for procedural worlds.
  • Background in open-world game development or sandbox survival games.
  • Experience with Voxel Plugin.
What we offer
  • Work on a groundbreaking AAA survival city-building game.
  • Be part of a passionate and highly experienced team.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including relocation assistance.
  • Opportunity to innovate in AI-driven and procedural game development.
  • A chance to grow with a rapidly expanding game studio backed by top industry veterans.

Are you ready to shape breathtaking worlds and bring Solid River’s landscapes to life? Apply now and let your creativity flow like a mighty river!
